An optional, but increasingly popular section in Books of Hours, this text is based on St John’s Gospel account of Christ’s Passion. A large miniature of the Deposition introduces the text. Every page has a marginal miniature from the cycle illustrating the French poem Pilgrimage of the Human Life.
Deposition (Passion according to St John)
Together with the miniatures on fols. 119r and 147r, this is the work of the most accomplished associate who assisted the Giac, Rohan and Madonna Masters with the large images throughout the volume. The marginal scene illustrates the Pilgrimage of the Human Life cycle. The arms of Isabella Stuart have been added to the border.
