The Hours of Philip the Bold

Collation

Description and Contents

The manuscript has 37 quires grouped in five units, each corresponding to a major section of the text.

The original structure was fairly regular; most quires produced during the first campaign were quaternions (consisting of four bifolia). The current structure is more complex, owing to the removal of numerous leaves; the rebinding of the Hours of the Virgin out of order in two sections (fols. 13r-26v and fols. 90r-105r); and the insertion of 15th-century additions (distinguished in green on the diagrams) into the original quires.

The quires are presented and numbered (1 to 37) in the order in which they appear in the manuscript now. The unit numbers on each diagram (I to V, with subsections) indicate the original order.
