The prayer beginning Obsecro te (‘I beseech you’) was one of the most popular devotions addressed to Mary as a mediator between God and humanity. It opens with a large miniature of the manuscript’s patron kneeling before the Virgin and Child. Every page has a marginal miniature from the cycle illustrating the French poem Pilgrimage of Jesus Christ.
