Saturday 1 August, 12 noon - 4pm

Fitz Fest brings festival vibes, freebies and fresh perspectives – inviting you to experience Italian Renaissance artworks in unexpected and imaginative ways.

Discover inspiring paintings and objects in our newly redeveloped gallery 7, get hands-on in creative workshops, or kick back with live music and delicious ice cream.

This event has been curated by the Fitzwilliam Young Producers and is supported by De Reus Foundation.

Rest Space: Monk Summer

Front Lawn, Marquee

Inspired by lives of monks, the drapery and resting seen in paintings in the gallery, this session is an afternoon of chill, curated by the Fitzwilliam Young Producers. Take part in relaxing art activities, read books, rest and reflect on your day.

Drop-In Workshop: Costume Making led by Fitzwilliam Young Producers

Join the Fitzwilliam Young Producers and create a playful costume inspired by paintings and objects from the Italian Renaissance. Create your own character and be someone else for the day! This workshop has been developed with support from artist Anna Brass.

Drop-In Workshop: Restful herbal tea making with Maymana Arefin

Join artist Maymana Arefin to learn about the restful and healing properties of herbs and their folklore, as well as the role of medicinal plants during the Renaissance. Make a unique tea blend for yourself to try or take away with you.

Pop-Up Choral Performances, Cambridge Early Music Consort

We’ll be joined by singers from Cambridge Early Music Consort who will share a range of tunes from the heart of the Renaissance era. The music will reflect key themes – from religion to mythology - in the Renaissance collection and take place in a range of spaces throughout the day.

Pop-Up Flute Performances and Demonstrations, Anne Heemskerk

Anne Heemskerk will bring her Renaissance flutes to the Fitzwilliam for the day and share music from the period in the galleries. You’ll also be able to get musical and have a go yourself!

Kiosk

Front lawn

Grab an ice cream, laze in a deckchair and imagine you’re in Venice. Hot and cold refreshments are also available.

Digital Postcard Workshop with Antonio Roberts

Join artist Antonio Roberts and play and experiment with retro video technologies to create portraits of your time at the Fitzwilliam. Embrace the creative tone and DIY style and consider the current 'renaissance' of image-making using digital relics.
