For confident beginners to advanced students

Learn about 17th century samplers and get a feel for some of the stitches used with Eilene Cross, a scholar in 17th century sampler stitching techniques.

Ideally, you will have experience in working on linen and know the basics of counted cross stitch, but a confident beginner all the way up to the most accomplished stitcher will gain knowledge and the resulting project will reproduce the original (Band Sampler, 1653, inscribed ‘Elizabeth Billingsley’) in all ways. The instructions are very clear and the techniques will include Montenegrin Stitch, Detached buttonhole and double running.

All material provided. Kit includes linen, silk threads, needle and instructions. Students will need to bring scissors, additional lighting and magnification if needed.

Booking essential. To register your interest tel: 01223 332904 or email: education@fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk. Places will be confirmed on receipt of payment.
