"Whilst at the Pottery Training Centre in Abuja [now Suleja], I spent a lot of time with the potters Ladi Kwali, Lami Toto and Asibi Aidoo. Ladi Kwali was very good at throwing pots on the wheel, and excellent at hand-building. She had been taught how to make pots by her aunt as a child. It was while working with Ladi Kwali and the other female potters at Abuja that I learnt the technique of hand-building while walking around the pot backwards in a circular motion. I now combine this method with others in the way I work today."
