The museum runs an innovative programme of sessions for children aged 0-5 years. We believe that children are curious, capable, and confident learners from birth. Our gallery educators devise activities that enable very young children to learn from and within the museum collections. We offer both open and targeted activities, aiming to build long-lasting relationships with visitors and forge connections with new audiences.

We work with other museums, galleries and educators, to contribute to discussions about what good practice with this age group looks like in a museum setting.

We are involved with an international research project concerning young children’s democratic engagement in public spaces. The aim of this project is to find ways of promoting young children’s presence in public spaces and to learn how they can make an active contribution as citizens of their local communities.
