  • Preventive conservation

The long-term preservation of the objects whilst on display is as important as the conservation treatment. Months of discussion and planning have ensured that the galleries and new display cases provide the right levels of temperature, humidity and light and that the materials used in the case construction do not contain any pollutants that might damage the ancient objects.

The coffins are very large and very fragile. They can easily be damaged as they are manoeuvred in and out of display cases. The Museum team, architect and case manufacturers worked together to translate ideas for safe and accessible support of the coffins into case designs that also allow maximum visibility for the viewer.
