Photography policy

You’re welcome to take photographs and short video clips in our public galleries, exhibitions and displays for non-commercial, personal use only, using small cameras and handheld personal devices. If you’re sharing to social media channels, don’t forget to tag us!

If you’d like to take images for commercial use, please contact us for licensing and permits. If you wish to film or photograph commercial content, film longer or more substantial videos, or arrange a professional shoot, our team are happy to discuss and arrange permissions and access as required. Contact us directly: licensing@fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk or events@fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk

Our photography guidelines listed below help safeguard our collection of artworks and objects on display, and ensure our Museum remains a safe and inclusive space for all our visitors, staff and volunteers.

• Flash photography is not permitted in any of our galleries, exhibitions and displays.

• Please don’t use specialist or professional equipment such as tripods and monopods, selfie sticks, additional lighting or long-focus and telephoto lenses.

• Please be mindful not to obstruct or inconvenience other visitors in the Museum. Don’t film or take pictures of anyone without their consent.

• Help us to preserve our collection for years to come, do not put any of the artworks or objects on display at risk.

• Look out for signs which indicate where photography is restricted. Some labels will identify artworks and objects which are not permitted to be filmed or photographed by visitors.

• For commercial reasons, photography isn’t permitted in our courtyard shop, pop-up shops or retail outlets.

• Many of the works in our collection are subject to copyright and publication restrictions. You are responsible for ensuring copyright and other laws aren’t infringed.

If you would like high-resolution images for reproduction or publication purposes, please contact our image library: licensing@fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk

To arrange wedding or pre-wedding photography in the Museum, please book an appointment at least 14 days in advance for a time and date we are closed to the public. As this is professional photography, a location charge will apply but requests will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Contact our events team or image library: events@fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk / licensing@fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk

A wide selection of postcards of works from our collection are available to buy in-person in our courtyard shop or online. You can also order reproduction prints of many works from our custom prints site.
