Ceramic art, craft and tales from Medieval Cyprus

3 July to 23 September 2012
Cyprus Gallery (Room 22)

Glimpses of Medieval Cypriot life and art will be on show this summer in a special exhibition of ceramics from the 13th to 16th centuries.

Featuring 47 works from the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, along with 8 from the Fitzwilliam’s own collection, these beautiful ceramics combine colourful glazes with lively ‘sgraffito’ and slip-painted techniques to provide vivid insights into the life and crafts of Medieval Cyprus.

Don't miss our next lunchtime talk accompanying the exhibition:

The puzzle of Byzantine ceramic plates (18 July).

Sat 14 July | 10.00 - 16.00
John Lewis (Cambridge) and Gallery 1

See Augustus John’s painting of Sir William Nicholson come to life in an art recreation in John Lewis, Cambridge.

Watch the moment captured on canvas by local artist, Stuart Catterson, and be in with a chance of winning the finished masterpiece. Catterson is a self-taught artist who works in the styles of old masters such as Van Gogh and Picasso.  The event complements the Open Studios programme taking place across the city.

Back at the Fitz, enjoy a talk in front of the painting, in Gallery I, at 13.15.

Pictured left: competition winner Phillip Arkinstall, who will be modelling for the painting on the day.
