Rainbow flag

The Fitzwilliam Museum is very pleased to fly the flag in celebration of the first Cambridge Pride event this year.

See the flag flying from the Museum over the weekend of 8/9 June, with community celebrations taking place at Jesus Green on Saturday 8 June. This free event includes a main stage, Pride parade, marquees for local acts to perform, local charity and community group stalls, as well as food vans.

Cambridge has a thriving LGBTQ+ community and a long history of LGBTQ+ events. The University of Cambridge Museums recent programme of LGBTQ+ tours called Bridging Binaries have been received particularly well. People are invited to join volunteer guides to discover their personal selection of fascinating stories of non-normative gender and sexual identities through a range of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer-related objects. The Museum of Classical Archaeology will, in fact, be holding a tour on 8 June at 11.30, with tours at the Museum of Zoology on 16 June and 7 July, Polar Museum on 15 June and 13 July, and The Fitzwilliam Museum on 6 July. All tours are free, but booking is essential.

This September, the University of Cambridge Museums will also be working with the team behind Bridging Binaries and an intrepid group of contributors to curate a pop-up LGBTQ+ exhibition over two days. Find out how you can get involved!
