The Organisation

Fitzwilliam Museum Enterprises Ltd is the commercial subsidiary of the University of Cambridge. The current company operates four retail units as well as a wholesale business selling to retailers across the UK and the rest of the world. The company plans to expand its business into e-commerce and licensing in the coming year and we are therefore recruiting a full-time Finance assistant.

 

The Role

  • Responsibility for the purchase ledger: distribute supplier invoices for approval, enter invoices into the accounting system, reconcile supplier statements and process the weekly payment.
  • Enter sales receipts into the Sales Ledger, distribution of customer statements and chasing of overdue accounts.
  • Checking of bank statements, updating Sales Ledger with funds received. Entering standing orders and direct debits into the general ledger.  Preparation of a monthly bank reconciliation.
  • Administering the monthly salary run, process payments to HMRC and the pension provider. Process starters and leavers and implement the annual salary increase.
  • Prepare the quarterly VAT return and month EC sales report. Enter the returns onto the HMRC website.
  • Provide management with regular reports and any ad-hoc requirements.
  • Maintain, file and archive financial records, ensure there is accessible and comprehensive documentation for audit purposes.

 

Requirements

  • Has a good overall understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Has high attention to detail.
  • Is able to work using their own initiative as well as part of a team.
  • Has good excel skills and is proficient with accounting software
  • Is flexible and be able to multitask.

Hours are 36.5 per week, Monday to Friday.
