Artist’s Biography

Lino Mannocci was born in Viareggio, Italy, in 1945. He came to London in 1968, studying at Camberwell College of Art (1970-3) and gaining an MA in printmaking at the Slade School of Fine Art (1974).

In 1979 Mannocci was a charter member of the Italian artists' movement, Metacosa, which sought to produce works that invested objects with significance (in some ways a descendant of the Pittura Metafisica of Giorgio de Chirico and Carlo Carra - and with links to the work of Giorgio Morandi).

Mannocci's style has moved away from the tightly delineated surface of his paintings of the 1980s: both his paintings and prints now have a more broken and expressive facture, but the concern to produce works that go beyond surface and form remains central. Mannocci's work has been widely exhibited and collected. He now divides his time between London and Montigiano, a hilltop village overlooking the Tuscan coast near his birthplace.
