Kay Goodridge

At the beginning of the workshops I mentioned that I wanted to look at something that incorporated photography, painting and montage; something multi-layered. Hughie O'Donoghue's Wrestlers II was the perfect choice - a dark image that required looking beyond the surface of the work. The image reminded me of soldiers in the First World War being caught up in the trenches, unable to extricate themselves from the theatre of war, fighting to escape.

The two pieces I have made are details from a series of images about the Iraq war. I used a multi-layered process – three montages on canvas using found imagery and texts from the media or from my own collection. I then scanned the montages and isolated certain details from them to create this work.
