History with the Department

Dr Markou was Research Assistant (Documentation) from 2004 to 2005, during which time she pioneered many of the cataloguing processes that we now use to accession the Department's collections. In 2006 she completed her doctorate at the Sorbonne, since when she has worked in the Numismatic Museum in Athens and is now a researcher in the Institute of Greek and Roman Antiquity (KERA) of the National Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF). She continues to give conference papers abroad and in the UK.

Research Interests

Archaic and classical coins (6th–4th century B. C.) issued by the kings of Cyprus and coinages from the surrounding areas of the eastern Mediterranean; iconographic parallels between coin types and artefacts and the transition from the Persian to the Ptolemaic period.
