Iconography: religion and politics
Tarsos, satrap Mazaios of Cilicia (361-34 BC), stater, SNG FM Leake and General 5309
The iconography of the enthroned Zeus holding an eagle is not taken from Pheidias’ famous statue in Olympia, but from that of Cilician coins showing the Baal of Tarsos to symbolize an intended religious merger within Alexander’s empire.
