It should be emphasised that precise findspots are not kept on the online version of the database. The findspots given here are the "public" findspots, as agreed with the finders, normally by reference to the parish or the nearest large settlement, and the grid references are for these settlements or for the geographical centres of the parishes. While we like to record findspots as precisely as possible in our own records, we understand that the public disclosure of this information could attract unwanted attention to the site.
