Leaf from Gingo Biloba by Herman Zapf

This extremely delicate work is executed in red and black ink on Japanese tissue paper with gold and silver specks and dried leaves. One of the most celebrated contemporary artists in the world of calligraphy, typography and design, Hermann Zapf took inspiration from the great Romantic poet and philosopher, Wolfgang Goethe. Goethe dedicated the poem Gingo Biloba to Marianne von Willemer and included it in his West-östlische Divan published in 1819.
