Limestone statue of Amenenhat III

Only the head and shoulders of this statue are preserved. They represent Amenenhat III who was one of the Twelfth Dynasty rulers. The portrait features are very similar to those of the ruler’s father- Senusret III and depart from the idealised images of earlier rulers. The king is identified as royalty by his headdress and also the cobra that would once have decorated his brow; this is now missing.
