Sergeant Edward Mott of the Border Regiment fought on the Western Front in World War I. In March 1917 his company came under machine gun fire from a strong point. He was wounded, but he made a rush for the gun, which he captured, probably saving many of his comrades from death or injury. In 1915 Edward Mott had been awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal and promoted to Sergeant for his bravery at Gallipoli.
