We regret that from time to time some galleries are closed to the public for refurbishment or redisplay.

Short-Term Closures

From 4 June the Main Entrance to the Museum will be temporarily closed while scaffolding is being removed.

Long-Term Closures

Galleries 2 & 3 (+ 1)

From 24 April, urgent repairs to the ceiling and lantern in Gallery 3 will begin. Galleries 2 and 3 will be closed for the remainder of the year, and Gallery 1 will also have to be closed for short periods of time.  Please check the home page of our website for the most up to date information.

Gallery 3 balcony

The balcony will be closed to visitors from Saturday 13 January. We regret any inconvenience this may cause. Access to these and other works in the collection of the Department of Paintings, Drawings and Prints can be organised by appointment, please email: fitzmuseum-studyroom@lists.cam.ac.uk

 

20th Century (Gallery 11) 

The gallery will be used for the Things of Beauty Growing exhibition until 17th June. It will be rehung with the 20th Century collection after this, date to be confirmed. 

 

Fan Gallery (Gallery 34)

6 May 2017 - 7 October 2018: Currently being used for a temporary exhibition of samplers.

 

In addition, individual pictures and objects are sometimes sent on loan to other museums. It is also necessary from time to time to change the contents of a display or remove items for conservation. If you are planning to visit the Museum to see a particular item, please check in advance that it is on view by contacting: reception@fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk.
