Festival of Abul Qumsan 1998

The Festival of Abul Qumsan is perhaps the major local mulid or religious festival on the West Bank at Luxor. Abul Qumsan was a local man with a holy reputation who died some time this century, and his mulid is celebrated for about three days in the week before the holy month of Ramadan. This year the main days were 11-13 December. There are swings, shops, etc, but the main daytime attractions are (in the afternoons) displays of horse riding and ritualised stick dancing/fighting. The latter are accompanied by Egyptian musicians playing traditional music on drums and pipes. You can see all these below.
