Various pieces of technology underpin the eGuide system. For the visitor, the most obvious of these is the handheld computer. The computer's high definition touchscreen allows the user to make selections about what to view. This content is stored on a central computer server and transmitted to the handheld device across a wireless network when an option is tapped on the screen. Software systems working together (Hypertag's TagManager & MagusGuide and the Fitzwilliam Museum's eGuide System) direct the visitor to the appropriate content according to the context, such as a thematic tour, which they can select. The system is very flexible, allowing content to be updated and added, as well as grouped together and styled in different ways.
