Two visitors viewing paintings in Fitzwilliam Museum

An innovative project increasing access to information and enhancing knowledge at The Fitzwilliam Museum

The chance to discover how a sculpture was made, watch a video clip putting an artwork into context or hear an expert commentary about an Egyptian artefact can add a great deal to a museum visit. Exhibits are brought to life, knowledge shared, and new perspectives offered.

It can be difficult to do this within a museum. Labels and printed guides provide limited information. Large panels and video screens are often inappropriate. Human guides are not always available.

Imagine, however, the potential of carrying around a rich source of information during a visit; an expert speaking to you whilst you look, highlighting details which might otherwise go unnoticed or offering an explanation of why an object appears the way that it does. A resource that puts multi-media content to support the viewing of exhibits into the hands of the visitor.
