Description

Late Medieval maiolica jug, painted in manganese and green with leaves and lines.

Cream earthenware, the interior, lower part of the exterior and part of the base lead-glazed yellowish-brown; the rest tin-glazed pale beige. Painted in manganese and copper-green. Shape 8. Squat bulbous body with disk base, cylindrical neck, applied folded spout and strap handle. The spout and handle are flanked by three vertical manganese lines forming side panels, each containing a leaf on a curved stalk. Under the spout is a short green line between two wavy manganese lines. Below are two manganese horizontal bands, and on the neck, three. The spout and handle are horizontally striped in alternate colours.

Technique Description
