Description

Linen band sampler embroidered in polychrome silks in cross, hem, double running, Algerian eye, satin, chain, whipped stem and trellis stitch. The pattern consists of horizontal bands of lettering, and stylised floral and abstract motifs. the bottom band is made up of two rectangles with the initials 'H.C' in the left one and 'I.H' in the right one. Above it is the text 'HANNAH CANTING/ IS MY NAMe AND WI/TH MY NedeL I ROU/T THe SAMe & IUDA/ HAYLe IS MY DAMe'. The inscription at the bottom is "I H 1691 H C"
