University of Cambridge Museums (UCM) Marketing & Communications Coordinator - £27,057 - £32,277 - Fixed Term to 31 March 2018

University of Cambridge Museums (UCM), is one of 21 museum services nationally that have secured Major Partnership Funding from the Arts Council England (ACE). Over the last three years, the UCM’s Connecting Collections ACE-funded programme has begun to transform access to the exceptional collections and research resources of the eight University of Cambridge Museums. As part of this programme, a series of high-profile events and programmes, including Curating Cambridge, the Thresholds Poets, and the Discoveries exhibitions complement an imaginative and well-established programme for families, schools and lifelong-`learning audiences. The UCM, in partnership with The Audience Agency, have carried out extensive benchmarking of audience data and used this and other studies to inform a new Audience Development Plan. The UCM have recently secured funding from ACE to continue this programme during 2015-18, enabling a continued strategic approach to increasing and diversifying audiences.

Departmental Technician, Antiquities - £21,391 - £24,775 - Permanent - Full Time

The Fitzwilliam Museum was founded in 1816 and opened to the public in 1848. The Museum houses over half a million works of art and antiquities spanning centuries and civilisations and has an international reputation for excellence in research, exhibitions and education programmes. As well as being the principal museum of the University of Cambridge, the Fitzwilliam Museum is the largest cultural venue in the region, welcoming over 400,000 visitors a year.

As a Departmental Technician, you will undertake all practical aspects of caring for the collections of the Antiquities department. You will help to mount exhibitions and displays, often developing bespoke solutions for particular objects. You will contribute to safety, security and good housekeeping and assist in tracking the movement of objects which you will be required to record through manual and electronic systems (Adlib). You will also contribute to the achievement of the Museum’s purpose and aims by providing access to the collections. In collaboration with other technical staff, the role holder works with the museum administration on security and safety matters and cooperates on building and refurbishment initiatives.
