Departmental Technician, Antiquities - £21,391 - £24,775 - Permanent - Full Time

The Fitzwilliam Museum was founded in 1816 and opened to the public in 1848. The Museum houses over half a million works of art and antiquities spanning centuries and civilisations and has an international reputation for excellence in research, exhibitions and education programmes. As well as being the principal museum of the University of Cambridge, the Fitzwilliam Museum is the largest cultural venue in the region, welcoming over 400,000 visitors a year.

As a Departmental Technician, you will undertake all practical aspects of caring for the collections of the Antiquities department. You will help to mount exhibitions and displays, often developing bespoke solutions for particular objects. You will contribute to safety, security and good housekeeping and assist in tracking the movement of objects which you will be required to record through manual and electronic systems (Adlib). You will also contribute to the achievement of the Museum’s purpose and aims by providing access to the collections. In collaboration with other technical staff, the role holder works with the museum administration on security and safety matters and cooperates on building and refurbishment initiatives.
