As the Museum’s HR and Workforce Development Manager, you will play a key role in helping to deliver this vision.  You will manage all aspects of HR and Workforce Development, providing strategic and operational advice, guidance and support to the Senior Management Team and workforce, working closely with the Museum’s Assistant Director, Central Services and the University’s HR Business Team.  You will also provide support to the Arts Council funded University of Cambridge Museums (UCM) National Portfolio Organisation programme, working closely with the UCM team and Opening Doors Coordinator, and strategically with the Cambridge Museums Steering Group, to ensure that key objectives relating to workforce development, access and diversity are met.

Both directly and in liaison with University HR colleagues, you will work with staff across the Museum to ensure that University policies and procedures are adhered to and that the Museum complies with employment legislation and best practice.  Working closely with managers, you will provide comprehensive Human Resources management service to the Museum’s workforce which includes staff, volunteers, interns, placements, work experience students, apprentices, visiting scholars and students who work over a seven day period.

Excellent, collaborative people management, organisational skills, demonstrable practical experience of day to day management and negotiation, plus the ability to coach and inspire others are all critical requirements, and experience of working with volunteer and apprenticeship schemes in the not- for- profit sector is highly desirable.

You should ideally hold a first degree and be CIPD qualified or be able to demonstrate equivalent HR experience, and have a good knowledge of employment law and good employment practice.

Experience of working in a HR or workforce development capacity in the museums, heritage or cultural sector is highly desirable, and an interest in museums is essential.
