Adam Van Noort (1562-1641)
Etching by Anthony Van Dyck and engraving by an unknown printmaker, second state (of seven)
As with the portrait of Frans Francken a background was engraved behind Van Noort's head by a hand other than that of Van Dyck. This time Van Dyck chose a stone wall instead of a pillar. The British Museum possesses an impression of a state before the engraved background, where the wall has been indicated in chalk, serving as Van Dyck's instruction to the printmaker.
