Buying

This exhibition looks into shops and shopping in London during the second half of the eighteenth century, inspired by the Fitzwilliam Museum's collection of trade bills, which were issued to one family, the Blathwayts, who lived on Golden Square in the City of Westminster for twenty years from 1767.

This section looks at some of the most interesting items bought by the Blathwayt family, and relates them to objects in the Fitzwilliam Museum, the wider collections of the other University of Cambridge Museums, and beyond.

To view the entire collection of the Blathwayts' bills held at the Fitzwilliam Museum, go to the Gallery page.
