This website is part of a larger project that has involved examining each scarab in the Museum and assessing its material, technology and physical condition. The style and where appropriate the design of each scarab has also been checked and the existing documentation up-dated or improved. All the scarabs have been lightly brushed or dusted to remove surface dirt, and some have been cleaned with IMS; in a few cases, unsightly repairs carried out earlier in the twentieth century have been removed or improved. Finally each scarab has been placed into a high-quality storage unit.
The aim of this project is to improve both real and virtual access to the scarabs both for the general public and for scholars.
