25 centimes coin from Haiti, 1827
This silver coin is from Haiti. It was produced in 1827 under President J.P. Boyer (1818-43) in the 24th Year of his presidency. Boyer had been a leading figure in the Haitian Revolution (1791-1804), one of the most important slave rebellions which established Haiti, a former French colony, as a free republic. As president, Boyer unified North and South Haiti in 1820. His bust, facing left, adorns the obverse of the coin; the reverse depicts paired cannons before a palm tree, atop of which is perched a Liberty Cap that symbolises the Revolution.
