Ancient Greek silver coin from Histiaea, 196-146 BC
This silver coin is from the ancient Greek colony of Histiaea, modern-day Istiaia, on the island of Euboea off mainland Greece. Minted between 196 and 146 BC, the obverse shows a female head with rolled hair wearing earrings, necklace and a vine-wreath. The reverse shows the nymph Histiaea seated on the stern of a galley and the inscription 'AIEON'.
