Byzantine bronze follis of Theophilus, 830-42
This bronze follis is from the Byzantine Empire, minted in Sicily during the reign of Emperor Theophilus (829-42). The obverse shows a bust of Theophilus, bearded, wearing loros and a crown with a cross, holding a cross in his right hand. The obverse inscription is 'THEOFILOS BAS'. The reverse shows busts of his sons Michael and Constantine each wearing a chlamys and a crown with a cross.
