This exhibition, mounted in the Fitzwilliam Museum from 1 July - 12 September 2004, explores the rise and fall of the Normans.
The story is told through the medium of coinage, drawing on the Fitzwilliam's collection, recently enriched by the acquisition of Dr William Conte's collection of Norman coins, with the aid of generous grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the National Art Collections Fund.
Most of the Continental coins in the exhibition are drawn from the collection of Professor Philip Grierson.
