Bequeathed by the artist to his neice, Jeanne Fèvre (according to a label on the stretcher); her sale, Galerie Jean Charpentier, Paris, 12 June 1934, no. 141, as Vue d'un couvent aux environs de Rome, effet de soir (sold for 1,000 FF); private collection, Paris, (bought at the Fèvre sale); David-Weill (label D W 34/36 on stretcher and D.WL.6 on frame); by descent to his granddaughter; with Hazlitt, Gooden and Fox
