44 Wooden headrest
Kenya, Samburu
First half of the twentieth century or later
This wooden block headrest has two integrated supports at the front with an elegantly curved platform forming a lip on both sides. On the back (which is shown here) there is a stabiliser to prevent the headrest from falling backwards whilst it is in use. The Samburu are a group of Nilotic people who are semi-nomadic pastoralists from north-central Kenya.
