41 Wooden headrest
Kenya, Rendille
First half of the twentieth century or later
Wooden headrest carved from a single piece of wood with three branches forming the legs to support a long curved platform, which is higher at one end. The ends of the platform are finished differently: one side is rounded and branchlike in appearance, the other side has been carved so that it joins the back leg, and has an indentation which gives the appearance of the back of an animal. The platform has undulating sides and a clearly marked ridge on underside to hold a twisted hide handle.
