5 Wooden headrest

Ficus Sycomorus

Sedment, Egypt
First Intermediate Period (2170-2020 BC)

This headrest was found in grave 1582 at Sedment at a depth of 18 feet with a coffin that was painted yellow and with eyes on the side. The tomb card notes that the grave was disturbed. The sex of the deceased was undefined by the excavators. The grave is dated to Dynasty 9. Unlike the other two examples from this cemetery, this headrest is manufactured in three parts.
