2 Wooden headrest

Abydos, Egypt
Middle Kingdom (2119-1794 BC)

This headrest is carved from a single piece of wood, and has suffered termite damage to the sides, base and edges. There are traces of plaster on the platform, perhaps to hold textile to the surface. The headrest was found in grave E 103 in the Middle Kingdom cemetery at Abydos. It is quite different in form from any of the others in this case.
