Asia Minor, 150-100 BC, Temple Complex, GNM: 10-975:186

This figure of Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, with sinuous drapery fluttering around her epitomizes the Hellenistic baroque style and recalls the famous 2nd century BC Greek statue, now in the Louvre, known as the Winged Victory of Samothrace.

Though the exact function of this figure remains unknown, its presence recalls the militaristic environment of the Hellenistic world with which Vani was engaged.
