It is surely true that the figured scenes evoke the appearance and elements of the life-style of the ruling Frankish class. So, there are no figures of farmers, fishermen, cooks, builders, carpenters or other workpeople and servants. The women wear fashionable western European dress, long gowns, sometime veils, broad belts; the men appear in short tunics with falcons on their wrists; there are also possible wedding scenes, dancers and coats of arms.
Among the most appealing images are those of the hastily sketched birds, fish and other animals, while the numerous floral and geometric motifs, if less quirky and individual-seeming, are still extremely well-suited to the shapes of pot and the quality and colours of the glazes.
