PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Parchment, i original paper flyleaf + 48 fols. (fol. 48 lifted pastedown), 350 x 245 mm (265 x 150 mm), 34 long lines, ruled in violet ink, catchwords, leaf signatures.
BINDING: Sixteenth century, vellum wrapper on which columns of figures are still visible, attached on five leather thongs with original sewing.
CONTENTS: fols. 1r-45v Patent of Nobility (Previlegio) granted to Juan Sanchez Rendon by Charles V in 1537; fols. 45v-48r Arms of Rendon with blason and interpretation.
ORNAMENTATION: One full-page miniature of the Rendon arms and crest in a solid frame of red, blue and gold surrounded by flower and spraywork border (fol. 45v); parted red and blue initials [10-11 ll.] on square grounds of intricate penwork in red, blue and purple with partial bar-borders and foliate penwork flourishing for major divisions (fols. 1v, 2r, 7r, 8r, 19v, 29r, 42r, 46r); alternate red and blue initials [3-4 ll.] on square grounds of intricate pen-flourishing, red on purple or blue on red; initials with yellow highlighting and extensions into margins; line-fillers in black and yellow flowers (fols. 19r, 41r), and red, purple and yellow checks (fol. 28r); foliate border in red ink with yellow infill around title rubric (fol. 1r).

Notes:
The scribe identified himself on fol. 1v as Pedro Farfan, escriuano publico de Seuilla. The two witnesses named on fol. 48v are Garcia de Leon and Miguel de Gutierrez, the first classified as escriuano, the second as escriuano de Sevilla. The decoration, limited to depiction of the family’s arms, is typical of cartas ejecutorias produced in the first half of the sixteenth century (Madrid 2000, 47-48).
