Notes(s):
A proof without letterpress text on the reverse, printed around the same time as the first impressions of the original 1498 editions (which had letterpress text of chapter nineteen on the reverse). Such proofs without text are sufficiently common to suggest that Dürer printed them to sell, rather than merely as trials. The image derives mainly from chapter thirteen, with heavenly elements from later verses in chapter fourteen. Dürer was influenced by the woodcut in the 1483 Koberger Bible.
