Burne-Jones, Edward; draughtsman; British artist, 1833-1898

Date:
before 1880
During the 1880s, Burne-Jones made a number of studies of armour from the collection of Sir Coults Lindsay, these being related to the Briar Rose and Perseus series of pictures. In the finished versions of 'The Finding of Medusa' Perseus wears armour created by the artist himself, for which there is a design, similar to no. 679, in Birmingham City Art Gallery, dated 1881 (Inv. No. 46'98). The study here is therefore probably earlier.
