Notes:
From the series Sankai mitate sumo (Sumo bouts between landscapes and seascapes) published by Yamadaya Shôjirô in 1858. The title is inscribed on a cartouche in the shape of the fan used by the referee at a sumo wrestling match. The artist originally planned to include 140 prints in 70 pairs, each pair comprising a landscape and a seascape from one of the 70 provinces of Japan, but only ten pairs were completed. This print was paired with a view of the coast at Tanakuchi, also in Bizen Province. They were among the last prints that Hiroshige saw published: he died in the following month.
