Notes:
One of a group of sixteen sheets of similar size, which were probably part of a sketchbook, which were in the Reitlinger sale as North Italian School. Drawings by the artist are in the British Museum, (1885-3-14-300; 1954-11-26-2; 1954-11-26-3) and the Art Institute in Chicago, (1993-196). Philip Pouncey, who coined the name of the Pseudo-Pacchia and who owned a drawing by him, considered the drawings to be stylistically consistent and Sienese, with affinities to Girolomo Pacchia (1477-1533) and to Giovanni Bazzi, il Sodoma (1477-1549). This example shows the characteristic gusto with which the Pseudo Pacchia draws, together with a rather more refined line than some of the other drawings in this group.
