Description:
Linen sampler embroidered with polychrome silks in double running, cross, long-armed cross, Montenegrin cross, arrowhead cross, satin and trellis stitch. All four sides are hemmed. There are seventeen bands of mainly floral with some geometric horizontal repeating border patterns, one containing 'boxers'. Two bands contain the inscription 'ELIzAbetH BILLINgzley Her/ ZAMPLer FINIzhed the 19 IVLY/1653'.
