Description:
Linen sampler embroidered with polychrome silks in double running, cross, Montenegrin Cross, satin, detached overcast and trellis stitch, with detached needlepoint lace filling stitches. There are fourteen bands, ten of horizontal repeating border patterns, mainly floral but some including birds with a bead for an eye, 'boxers' and a repeating hand motif. The upper four bands contain an alphabet and the inscription 'EterA/ FRANCeS BRIdON Oct 31/MD 1644 Aged 10'.
